Gals Getaway: Shop 'til You Drop Itinerary

DuPage County is the ideal destination for a little "retail therapy."  Whether that includes maxxing out the credit cards or just passing the time window shopping, DuPage will leave you breathlessly satisfied.

Use this handy self-paced itinerary to be sure to hit all the shopping hotspots. Bring your GPS system, and don't worry if you forget your comfortable shoes. We've got you covered.

Our adventure begins at Oakbrook Center, the crown jewel of the Village of Oak Brook with over 160 specialty stores and major upscale retailers and restaurants in a lush outdoor setting.

Travel west on 22nd Street for just a few miles to Yorktown Center in Lombard, where you will find more major retailers and another nearly 150 specialty shops in a mall-style venue surrounded by shops in a hip "lifestyle center" setting, as well as lots of restaurants and a multi-screen movie theater.

Hop on the I-355 tollway south to yet another mega-center, The Promenade Bolingbrook, with mainstreet shopping and dining surrounded by more fabulous anchor stores and dining spots.

Drive west, then north a few miles on Route 59 until you reach the Westfield Fox Valley center, a 3-level enclosed shopping center with 180 stores and restaurants in Aurora, just a couple miles west of downtown Naperville.

Continue on I-59 until you reach the I-88 tollway. Go west to the Farnsworth Avenue exit for the Chicago Premium Outlets, where you'll find 120 designer and name brand outlets boasting everyday savings of 25 - 65%.

If you prefer smaller and quainter venues, this next stretch is for you. Take I-88 back east to Naper Boulevard. Travel north to Town Square Wheaton, a lifestyle shopping center with leading shops, restaurants and services, plus free center-wide WiFi, so you can email photos of your great finds to the folks back home.

It's worth the trip to continue due north to historic Downtown Wheaton, where warm, friendly service and tree-lined streets provide the framework for this upscale retail and service district.

For a real adventure in shopping, head up to North Avenue where you'll drive east to Villa Park's 5 Star Indoor Swap Mart, Chicago's bargain hunters' paradise. Continue east on North Avenue, and go south when you reach York Road.

Now, we come nearly full circle as we reach Elmhurst City Centre, offering lots of great shopping, dining and family fun in a picturesque community setting just a few short miles north of where we began our shopping odyssey.
