The bittersweet feeling of Labor Day weekend is upon us– the end to summer may have you feeling down, but fall colors, festivals, and food are right around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited! We encourage you to make the most of your “last summer hoorah” by experiencing what DuPage County has to offer right in your backyard.
Discover a new tradition by visiting one, or more of the following local events/attractions taking place this weekend:
September 2 – September 3
Kline Creek Farm
Party like it’s 1893! Experience farm life in the late 1800s with horse-drawn hayrides, livestock, games, and old fashioned portraits.
Ashley Whippet K-9 Frisbee World Championships
September 2 – September 3
Nike Sports Complex
Stop by the Nike Sports Complex to see the world’s best teams compete for the title of “World Championship.” Flying-disc catching dogs and their handlers are coming from as far away as Japan and China for this event.
Dinos & Dragons
Now through September 17
You don’t want to miss your chance to see the Dinos & Dragons exhibit at Brookfield Zoo– featuring 17 animatronic dinosaurs! Explore the dinosaurs along the winding outdoor path and be sure to walk through the indoor tented area to see a Komodo dragon– seen for the first time at Brookfield Zoo.
Rock of Ages
Now through October 15
Drury Lane Theatre
Plan a trip to the beautiful Drury Lane Theatre to see “Rock of Ages.” Featuring a mix of classic 80s hits, the musical follows aspiring rock star Drew and his sweetheart, Sherri as they fight to save Hollywood’s Sunset Strip. Watch the video below for a behind the scenes look into a Rock of Ages rehearsal!
Origami in the Garden
Now through October 22
The Morton Arboretum
Engage in the beauty of The Morton Arboretum and take pleasure in viewing dozens of awe-inspiring large-scale metal sculptures based on the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. Exhibit created by Santa Fe-based artists Kevin and Jennifer Box.
First Division Museum
After an extensive 10-month renovation project, the First Division Museum at Cantigny Park has reopened with an all-new “Duty First” gallery focusing on the more recent history of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division. Visit the museum to experience integrated and interactive technology that allows you to hear and feel part of the soldier’s stories.
