Last month, the DuPage CVB hosted its second group of Chinese students from Huantai 1st Middle School (located in the historical city of Zibo, in the Shandong Province). As part of the DuPage Discovery Tours program, the Chinese students and teachers spent almost two weeks (12 days) visiting destinations in the DuPage County area to promote cross-cultural understanding, higher learning, and interest in foreign languages.
The group followed a custom itinerary created by the DuPage CVB, their Global Brand Ambassador, Bill Liu and his counterpart, Will Cheng.
In partnership with District 88, the international group had the opportunity to shadow students, teachers, staff members and administrators in addition to touring the academic buildings and participating in extracurricular activities.
The students and teachers also learned about and visited county and city government buildings where they were able to communicate and interact with government officials. They toured a local fire department and police station- the group even got to use an official fire hose and students were locked in a jail cell!
A trip to DuPage County would be incomplete without taking delight in our green spaces! To name a few- the group explored the gardens at Cantigny Park, they drove golf carts (a unanimous favorite) and learned to golf at Downers Grove Golf Club. They also adventured at Blackwell Forest Preserve– archery, canoeing and kayaking!
The success of their visit was made clear at the reception on the last night of the trip. The students and teachers alike shared their experiences and reminisced on the 12 days that had gone by- laughs and a good time were had by all in attendance.
We can’t wait to host our next group of students!
