In celebration of the 2025 exhibition Hokusai and Ukiyo-e: The Floating World, the College of DuPage, McAninch Arts Center, and Cleve Carney Museum of Art have partnered with Naperville artist Rich Lo to create ukiyo-e-style artwork showcasing the many vibrant villages and cities of DuPage County—including Woodridge! Lo will craft original pieces that highlight unique locations in each community. These artworks will then be transformed into large-scale murals and installed in the specific communities they represent. Additionally, they will be displayed at the McAninch Arts Center during the Hokusai and Ukiyo-e exhibition from May 31 to September 21, 2025.
Woodridge’s large-scale public art piece will feature a Ukiyo-e styled Lake Harriet and will be unveiled at a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, May 21, at 5:00 PM outside Village Hall (5 Plaza Drive). To celebrate, attendees can enjoy free Kona Ice—courtesy of the Village of Woodridge and the Woodridge Park District—and take part in a Waves Craft Station at the Woodridge Public Library from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The craft station will offer Japanese cherry blossom art activities and origami folding activities.
This exciting initiative coincides with Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, observed each May to celebrate the rich cultural contributions of people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent.
