In the timeless words of Shakespeare, "What's in a name?" Naming a business is both an art and a science, blending creativity with strategic thinking. One must carefully think of something that's catchy and will stick for years to come. Oftentimes, it comes from a family name, a memory, or something unique to the establishment. When the name is well-chosen, it creates an instant connection.

In 2014, Melissa and her then-boyfriend of six months, Angelo, were casually browsing Craigslist for an espresso machine. Their goal was to start learning the ropes of coffee, with the dream of possibly opening a café one day. What they didn’t expect was to find an entire coffee shop for sale. They visited the space in July, and by August, they had taken the leap, purchasing the shop and diving headfirst into the world of coffee entrepreneurship. Since the space had previously operated as a café, they knew they needed a new name to make it their own.

Melissa and Angelo began brainstorming together, jotting down a long list of ideas and circling their top five before checking trademark availability. One name stood out: Brewpoint, a thoughtful wordplay on “brew” and “viewpoint.” It captured their vision of the café as a place for curiosity, conversation, community, and fresh perspectives. Their original tagline, Expand your brew, played off expand your view, inviting guests to open their minds and explore new ideas, tastes, and ways of thinking.

Coincidentally, around the same time they first saw the café, Melissa had just returned from a trip to the Philippines. When she researched the name Brewpoint, she discovered that only one other café in the world used it. and it happened to be in the Philippines. She took it as a sign, and the name was officially born.

Since then, Brewpoint Coffee has grown into a thriving coffee business with three coffee shops, a coffee roastery, and a premier event space. At Brewpoint, they are passionate about sourcing the highest quality coffee beans and roasting them to perfection. They are also committed to creating a welcoming space where everyone feels at home, where they can come together, and where they can experience the passion and love that goes into every cup of coffee.
