In the timeless words of Shakespeare, "What's in a name?" Naming a business is both an art and a science, blending creativity with strategic thinking. One must carefully think of something that's catchy and will stick for years to come. Oftentimes, it comes from a family name, a memory, or something unique to the establishment. When the name is well-chosen, it creates an instant connection.
Mesón Sabika is an 1847 Georgian-style mansion that was built by James Gregson Wright. It currently sits on a pristine four-acre estate near Downtown Naperville. In Spanish, "Mesón" refers to a Mansion, often associated with elegant dining and hospitality. It evokes the feeling of warmth and community, perfect for a tapas-style dining experience. The word "sabika" is believed to be a reference to La Sabika, a hill in Granada, Spain, where the famous Alhambra Palace is located. Together, Mesón Sabika lightly translates to “Mansion on a hill,” a perfect description for the restaurant when it opened in 1990.
The term tapas means “cover” and originates from Taverns utilizing bread to cover their beverages. As time went on, they began adding additional ingredients to the bread, creating tapas. Taverns began competing amongst each other, and soon tapas became a success.
